ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
In
a beautiful ceremony on August 5th, 2007, friends and family of
Priscilla Zamora Trejos celebrated the first anniversary of the
inauguration of the library dedicated to her memory. The small school
in the community of Los Planes, which houses the library, saw visitors
from different parts of Costa Rica and the United States gathering
again to remember Priscilla and her enthusiasm for teaching and for the
natural world. During the ceremony library books, school materials, and
20 new school desks were donated. Campanario and the Los Planes school
children and staff thank all those who continue to remember our dear
friend and colleague, Priscilla.
IN DEDICATION TO PRISCILLA
Our dear friend and colleague, Priscilla Zamora Trejos, worked
for Proyecto Campanario for two years as resident biologist and course
instructor for many students, both local and international. She
organized international student programs, worked with local schools,
spent hours and hours in the forest, and initiated research projects.
Her love of the natural world and enthusiasm for life infected us all.
In
October of 2005, Priscilla took a year’s contract with a highly
regarded marine science research NGO. We were all expecting her back
with the Campanario team the following October. But in February of
2006, on a diving expedition off the coast of Colombia, Priscilla was
lost at sea for, still to date, unexplained reasons. This has been a
devastating loss for Campanario and her hundreds of friends around the
world. To honor Priscilla’s memory, the school library in the
community of Los Planes was dedicated in her name on 5 August, 2006,
with a meaningful ceremony attended by over 85 people, coming from many
parts of the world. These pictures show Priscilla in her world and the
dedication of a project which Priscilla helped to build. We pray that
generations of school children and the community of Los Planes will
enjoy this library, which carries Priscilla’s name.
